Club Captain’s Log - 26/27 Welcome Back
Treasured members of RRFC,
This is your Club Captain speaking!
Welcome to, what hopes to be the first of many, Club Captain letters where I deliver to you the happenings of our prestigious Club.
And by thunder, are there happenings…… happening!!
Where to begin? Well before I get to the matters on the pitch, permit me to drop in and off-field news bulletin;
You may have noticed that our club website has been given a makeover worthy of its own episode on Queer Eye! If you haven’t had the chance to visit and have a look around our new hub on the worldwide web, I strongly urge you to rectify this oversight! All credit and gratitude must go to the illustrious Will Morton who has worked tirelessly on multiple upcoming projects and still found the time to put this masterpiece together!
Right! Now onto the on field goings on;
Well, despite our illustrious leaders at HQ bagging their first own goal of the season and postponing the league kick-off till October, the players and coaches at the mighty Ris have not let this affect preparations for Season 26/27.
For starters, there has been an exciting reshuffle in the coaches box which has seen our sideline prowler-in-Chief, Tom Fletcher (Fletch) be promoted to Head Coach. Alongside him, effortlessly handling the reigns of our forward pack, is former Risborough cornerstone Joel Rivers! Normally now would be the time to wish them luck for their first season in their news roles, and I’m sure we all do, but I can guarantee you from first-hand experience they do not need it!
Pre-Season training at the Club has been elevated in ways that I haven’t seen in my 10 years at Risborough. The extended buildup has meant that the players have been put through an extensive new fitness program, so much so that it has inspired our seasoned Tight-Head prop Chris Lane to complete his first 10k run, massive congrats to the Juggernaut himself!
The dry weather has also given us the opportunity to hone our skill sets ball in hand and develop our attacking shape and the boys cannot wait for the first available opportunity to put our skill on show for our wonderful supporters.
That’ll probably do for now dear readers as I’ve babbled on long enough that I was tempted to drop in a rude/strange word mid letter to see if you’re still with me. I will leave you, instead, with an ode to one of Risborough true greats…
David Coker, our Head Coach for many years, has stepped down from the role he held with such excellence and taken up the important role of Safeguarding Officer along with his position on the Club’s Committee.
The things I want to say about David warrants Club Captain’s letter all of his own and it still wouldn’t be enough… It was David who put his faith in me and gave me the honour of Captaining this amazing club. A Role I held for many years before David then appointed me Risborough RFC’s first ever Club Captain, paving the way for Jason Kilbey and Harrison Webster to take over from me as Team Captain. Aside from his excellent coaching prowess, I do not believe I’ll ever meet a better manager of men. A great coach, a great man and a great friend I look forward to catching up with you over a post victory beer David.
Anyway, that’s far too much from me Ladies & Gentlemen. I look forward to my next letter to you wonderful lot, I promise it will be shorter!
